Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground
After the breakup of Gatsby's American Dream (or hopefully, just the hiatus of the group) Kirk and Kyle formed a new kickass band called Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground. From what I've heard on their myspace (www.myspace.com/kaykayunderground) and seen on YouTube, it's really amazing, especially the single (from what I can tell) "Hey Momma". It's a great kickback to music that one would associate with a speakeasy. This music is a lot of fun, while still being musical. I can't wait for their album to be released in March. My friends over at Vinyl Collective are doing a presale of the vinyl right now. I've ordered mine....what about you?
Check out Vinyl Collective at the following website to pre-order of Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground...do it.

Suburban Home / Vinyl Collective SXSW party announced!
Incase any of you are lucky enough to go to South by SouthWest this spring be sure to check out Suburban Home's party! They're gonna have a sweet line up and everyone that is affiliated with Suburban Home is freakin rad. This is a posting I got in this moths news letter from Virgil.
Even if you're not going to SXSW, you should still check out these bands.
I am very excited to announce Suburban Home’s first party at South by Southwest. I have gone a handful of times as a very happy attendant, but this is the first time we have thrown together a show of any kind. We have secured many of our own bands as well as some bands that are dear friends. I am still working on a beer sponsor as it is my full intention for beer to flow like water on Friday, March 14th. Our party will begin at noon and go til 8pm at Headhunters. Headhunters is located at 720 Red River right in the middle of everything. Headhunters has an indoor and outdoor venue, our party is indoors. Make sure you get their early as the place is really small and I can see us having to turn folks away. There is no cost and no bracelet/badge needed. I really hope all of you can make it out.
We will have the following acts performing at our party:
Jon Snodgrass (from Drag the River)
Two Cow Garage
Playing Favorites
Joey Cape (acoustic set)
Teenage Bottlerocket
Scott Reynolds and the Steaming Beast
Limbeck
Portugal the Man
Ghost Buffalo
Jr. Juggernaut
O Pioneers!!! (performing with the Paper Moons)
A couple side notes. Jon Snodgrass will be performing his set with Two Cow Garage. I think they might trade off songs, play songs together, and throw in a few surprises for everyone. Joey Cape has agreed to do an acoustic set to warm up the Playing Favorites’ set. And Portugal the Man will more than likely do a special unplugged set for our show. I am so excited

Heilige Scheiße!
it has been way too long since i've done anything. i could feed you all my excuses like, i went on vacation to denver and then las vegas for punk rock bowling and then i had to work a lot to make up for it and then i got sick....i could feed you those excuses, and i will.
i'm at work right now and i thought i shouldn't let a whole month go by without some sort of entry. there's not much to report. i did get wilco's latest album "Sky Blue Sky" and it is simply amazing. a little bit a pink floyd influence with that subtle mellow rock that Wilco is so good at. it might make you think of a volkswagon commercial, but that's ok because the first thing you'll notice is Wilco's ability to achieve all-around awesomeness (i love alliterations)
also, if there is anyone that reads this and possibly depends on the concert info, i apologize for being stupid lazy lately. i will get better because i have just exhausted all of my excuses in the 1st paragraph.
seeya soon you crazy mutha rockstars

Dan Wilson's Tops of 2007
So I know it's a bit late, but it's still legitimate. Dan Wilson is rad and I'm so excited I was able to get in touch with him! Be sure to check out his new album, Free Life.
- What was your favorite album of 2007?
My favorite release of 2007 was - can I be honest here? - my own album, "Free Life," if only because it took me so long to make and the poor CD had to jump through 2 years of music biz hoops to get out.
AS for other people's music (much more fun for me to listen to), my fave releases were:
Radiohead's "In Rainbows" (sorta released last year, right?)
Bruce Springsteen's "Magic"
Feist's "The Reminder"
Jens Lekman "Night Falls Over Kortedala"
Bright Eyes' "Cassagaga"
- What was your favorite concert of 2007?
Bruce Springsteen at the Excel gave me a buzzy happiness that lasted for about 3 days.
- What was your favorite movie of 2007?
I saw three movies in 2007, "Ratatouille," "Superbad," and "Once." I loved them all but "Once" was my favorite. NOBODY has ever put the songwriting process in a film in such a real way.
- What was your favorite moment of 2007?
I enjoyed winning the Grammy Award for Best Song in February. That was pretty ridiculously fun.
I can't remember any least favorite moments from 2007, it was a pretty cool year, though a lot of hard work and long nights.
